Pink Floyd: Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967)

I could write for days about this album, but if you are already here, on a psychedelic music blog, you know. But for those of you who think you know what Pink Floyd is and have never heard this album, listen to it now. Roger Walters and David Gilmore made several admirable attempts over the last 40 years to carry on the idea of Syd Barrett, but regretfully missed in so many ways. This is Syd's album. Even more so, this is Syd Barrett. Syd created Pink Floyd. He named the band and wrote almost all of this album and their early singles. This isn't the Pink Floyd of 17 minute tracks with ego driven guitar solos. This is real psych music. Syd is psychedelia. Syd was one of the few. One of the few who transcended the music "business" and was a true artist. If you listen to the Beatles and think that is the weirdest it got, this album will open your eyes and ears (and your 3rd eye) to a whole new world of musical possibilities. After listening to this, you will love the enigmatic figure that is Syd Barrett.
